We are not going to hide behind the fact that we had a difficult 2011, however like any sport you are only as good as your last game and we finished on a high winning five from our last six games. We could have thrown in the towel when things got tough - the fact we didn't is a great sign for next year.
After a season where we struggled with some off-field incidents and injuries to a number of key players, the desire to win and motivation displayed toward the end of the season demonstrates the unity of our playing group. This bodes well for our 2012 campaign with a number of players already investing time on their own training programs prior to the start of the official pre-season.
As a coach and player, one of the most rewarding experiences of the 2011 season was the support received from YOU, our Members. Our appreciation to you for sticking solid through a challenging season and for committing to the future of this great Club cannot be measured. We achieved a significant milestone in 2011 in surpassing the 10,000th Member mark, growth of 65% on the previous season!
We know we can deliver next year and one of the bonuses from 2011 is the opportunity our young guys received to gain experience at an NRL level. Some of the younger members of our squad played more than ten games last season and they are well-prepared to challenge for a permanent position in 2012.
The return from injury of Martin Kennedy and Mitchell Aubusson together with our Jack Gibson Medal winner Jake Friend will add to our up-and-coming forward pack including Mose Masoe, Brad Takairangi, Tinirau Arona, Boyd Cordner and Lama Tasi.
Membership is more important than ever to secure our Club's future given the impact the proposed Government poker machine regulations will have on our Leagues Club funding. We encourage you to help guarantee the future of YOUR Club by making a membership commitment in 2012 and joining us for what promises to be a great year for the Sydney Roosters.
